Bloodstone Books is a new player in the self-publishing world. In creating an identity for it, the brief was to take a traditional feel, but give it a slight twist of modernity. The logo therefore uses a serif font, but pulls out the double Os in the word Blood to create a playful "oo". Particularly relevant for the company's first novel, a vampire thriller aimed at teenagers (the cover of which I also designed).
When it came to the website, it became apparent from reviewing competitors that the focus is often on providing a low-cost service. Whilst this is clearly relevant, the client's research showed that, in this market, a friendly, professional service from people who genuinely care about books is also important.
The site design is therefore a balancing act. Whilst it was important not to scream "expensive", it was also important to make it feel friendly, professional, and a little unusual within its market. I created a clean, clear layout that makes it quickly apparent what services the company offers and used vibrant imagery to highlight them and bring the site to life.
